1981 Evinrude 70 - ELCIM Exhaust housing question

Hello-

My first post to the forum. I just did my first impeller and everything went great. I got the kit and replaced everything. After I did the impeller service, I replaced the gear case oil and decided to fire up the engine to blow out the fogging oil and get it ready for spring fishing.

That went good too. Here's something I noticed and am curious about; When idling the engine, I noticed water being ejected from the 2 ports on the rear of the exhaust housing right below the engine cover. Is this normal? I read in the service manual that the exhaust housing is a "wet sleeve" system and allows water to leave through the hub and has pressure relief. Are those ports the pressure relief? What causes water to come out there? Just trying to understand. The engine runs great and is silky smooth.

It wasn't a lot I just have never noticed that before. I don't know if it matters or not, but the impeller I swapped was a 3-tab. The new one is a 6-tab.

Thanks,

Matt

PS I keep trying to attach a picture but I can't seem to upload it.
