I am buying a 1981 20hp Mercury that is set up for remote control. The guy is putting the tiller arm back on
which will give me steering and shifting at the side shift lever. MY QUESTION...how do I rig it so I don't have
to buy a control and plug it in the motor to start it. Isn't there some way to add a push button directly to the
starter or selenoid to use the electric start without using a mercury controller. THANK YOU....DON

Sure. Do it all the time. All you need is a simple momentary switch near the battery and tie the three wires together (battery hot, ground, and starter voltage). One side of the switch--a horn button type works great--gets its power from the posiitive post on the battery. Push the button, and it sends voltage to the starter solenoid terminal, and away you go!
