I'm new to working on outboards and have a question about the exhaust.
is water supposed to spit out the engine exhaust? it comes out the hose thing just fine, but also spits out the exhaust. and i really dont know the answer. i have a couple pics of where i'm talking about.

That is completely normal at idle.---When sking behind the boat a lot more water comes out those holes.------------And most of the cooling water goes out with exhaust at the prop.-----Is the thermostat installed ?

Okay thanks, i was thinking it was normal but i wasn't sure. and I'm not sure about a thermostat, where would i locate it? i'm still new with this kinda stuff. It's a 1980 Johnson 70 seahorse

Top of the cylinder head 4 or 5 screws remove the cover.---You will find the thermostat and poppit valves with springs in there.
