1974 Merc

I have a 65 hr 650 it has 2 little shocks on both sides. I was told they are hydraulic assists. But for the life of me I can get the motor to lift up.

What happens if you put the control in forward ?---Will it lift then ?

Your Merc locks down in Neutral and Reverse. With the motor in Forward and tilted, always leave it in Forward until you set it back down on the tilt pin. If you were to set the engine down with it shifted to Neutral or Reverse, the lockout hooks will ride on top of the tilt pin instead of around it. This will make it really hard to shift into Neutral or Reverse.

So if you're gliding into shore, shut 'er down, leave in Fwd, tilt 'er up. Opposite drill when shoving off. Works like a charm! Enjoy your Merc........ed
