1973 johnson 65hp

Motor starts right up and idles perfectly fine but dies when put into gear. will go into gear while on muffs. looking for any insight into why this might be happening. thanks

1. Idle speed set too low. OR..

2. Motor lacking power. Possibly not running on all 3 cylinders.

3. Major internal engine damage

^^^^ Agreed.----Start with a compression test.---Post the numbers.

Yup... She's been around long enough to expect low compression. I hope its because you are trying to swing a 26 pitch prop and the idle is too low. But, check the compression first. Good luck. Peace.
