1966 Johnson 9.5 - high RPM's, prop disengages

Howdy All,

I took my newly refurbished rig out yesterday and for most of the day the motor ran like a demon, until. . .

I had the boat on plane when all of the sudden the RPM's went WAY up and the prop lost propulsion. I throttled way back, prop re-engages. I decided to limp back to the boat ramp and for the rest of the day I could only get the throttle up to about 1/3rd throttle before the symptom would reappear - very high RPM's, prop loses power.

Thoughts?

yes....cheaper than a new prop...they may also have a good cheap used one to get as a spare..you may never use it but sometime those things go completely out and wont even get you back in...
