1962 Evinrude 75hp, correct timing of distributor.

Just completed rebuild of distributor, clean up parts, 2 new ball bearings, grease, and reassemble. Distributor with pivot bracket are back on motor with new drive belt. According to the Seloc manual there should be a timing mark directly below one of the stator ventilation holes on the flywheel, I couldn't find it, however there is a vertical mark below the ring gear which I aligned with the mark on the water jacket cover. Then I found a vertical line on the distributor pulley between two cogs which I aligned with a line on the pivot bracket, and slipped the drive belt on. Before I tension the belt and bolt down the bracket would this be correctly timed, or are there other marks that I should be using? Would the mark below the ring gear be used to check timing of #1 cylinder with a timing light?
Thanks for the help,
Mike.
