1960 40 hp evinrude lark dryland running

The main water intake is the screen behind the prop.-----Best to run in a tub with water about 8" above impeller.
 
Thanks for the reply, I saw where someone made a hose adapter for the plate above the cavitation plate on the left side. Does that not work for running at idle?
 
Yeah we had one back in the old days.It was a v shaped plate with a spring and hose nozzle on it,didnt work well at all.Like racerone said put it in a test tank.
 
If you tape over the main intake that will work.----Have an adapter like that for the 75 HP V-4 somewher here.
 
We were lucky,had a test tank out behind our shop and the lake and boat ramp across the street.You know youre old when you remember working on the old 50 and 75 hp v-4s like it was yesterday.lol
