Can anyone tell me if a mid 80

Can anyone tell me if a mid 80's 18hp Merc long shaft be easily converted to a short shaft? Is it an expensive swap if I can find the parts fairly cheap? Or is it even possible at all? Thanks.

"You might be able to raise the motor up, but as for the convert. I would think you would pass out at the cost involved. If the parts could be found.I would really need more info on the motor serial number.

"the mid section would need to be changed along with the drive shaft in the lower unit, shift shaft, and water pump tube. Easier to get a different motor."
