"My neighbor was cleaning out

"My neighbor was cleaning out the attic of his garage and gave me for free,
1 Monty Ward 5 hp outboard motor.
it has been up there for over 15 years, and looks in good shape.
looks to be air cooled with only forward, and nutral .
I sprayed stuff in the spark plug hole, added fresh gas, clean plug, pulled it a few times, and detected no spark.
What do I need to get it to spark?
I have no Idea about these motors.
is it points & condenser like the old cars?

it is a clinton mod#k5003108c
s#1056863
type xtv55250
Thanks"

"Stanley, believe your "ty

"Stanley, believe your "type" should read -

KTV 52250 which would make it a 1975 Clinton model K500 built for Wards.

In any event, yes this is an aircooled engine. It works with points and condenser located under the flywheel.

Although Clinton has been long out of business, parts are still available.

You can try www.discount-marine-parts.com or if you can manage to find a Sierra cross reference number for parts, perhaps Andrew who moderates this site can help you out with parts. He does carry some McCulloch/Atwater parts which maybe would be the same..."

"My eyes don't seem to be what they used to be, thanks.
any idea on the oil mix?"

"Most of the aircooled engines

"Most of the aircooled engines run fine at 24:1 using 2 cycle engine oil (such as used for lawnmowers, chainsaws etc) - NOT Marine 2 cycle oil."
