"I took my outboard to a lawnm

"I took my outboard to a lawnmower dealer and he charged me $20 to replace my starter roper and after 4 pulls it came off again. I returned it and he put the right diameter rope on and its fine now.

What I want to know is the "TRICK" that you do in order get the thing work properly. I tried before the repair and I just got a slack rope.I'd like to learn in case I'm out in the wilds and have to do this myself.

Any outboard magicians out there wanna share their secrets?
I'm new to this world of outboarding.

I have a mechanics manual but they don't say how to replace the rope just assemble and reassemble.

Here's pix of what I'm dealing with.

"Thanks Graham. That would be

"Thanks Graham. That would be appreciated. I know that you have take the "spool" back an extar turn but someone told me that the spring has to be reset somehow too. I dunno I don't want to screw anything up.
