What part is this

i have an 86 mercruiser 170...

i have an 86 mercruiser 170...alpha 1 sterndrive...i removed my lower unit to change the water pump...after inspecting the lower unit i see a "what looks like a nut" it looks a little corroded but im not sure what it is...ill try to describe where exactly it is....if you were to look at the unit as if it was still attached...it is on the back end...you have a bolt there that attaches the unit to the upper...well just in front of that towards the prop side there is a small rod with "that nut" on it...what is that? should it be replaced?

"That is the Shift Bushing OEM number 23-30617A2 or Sierra 18-2154.

It is included in the seal kit 18-2652 so it probably should be replaced.

Maybe someone else can supply some first hand info..."
