"Hi all Just read all the post

"Hi all Just read all the posts and there's alot of good info. No one seem sto have my motor 250 saltwater series motor. Just bought the boat and working out all the kinks. here's a pic of the motor: http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3867511
and the outdrive: http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3724307

Question is where on this site might the manual be for the motor ? I just winterized the motor and took the raw water pump cover off and the impeller is in pieces. Looking for the Impeller part on this site I ran into a problem. I cant find an Impeller with the 250 engine model referenced ? Do I really have a volvo 250 ? (it;s a 4 cyl motor)
thanks !

"Joe, what you seem to have is

"Joe, what you seem to have is a 270 or 275 outdrive that came with a different engine (probably an AQ130), and at some point the previous owner repowered with a "Volvo 250". Despite its pompous denomination, the "Volvo 250" has an output of 146 crankshaft HP. Check this link:

http://www.volvo.com/NR/rdonlyres/3A21FC96-3791-47E0-AEBB-44D20F0069F0/0/250A_SP _1990_en.pdf

The manual for your engine can be downloaded from the Volvo website. Check under "marine engines", then select AQ151A (it is your same engine):

http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/global/en-gb/marineengines/operators_manual/

Further, here is the link for your pump's impeller (Sierra version):

Hope this helps."

WOW thanks for the info ! It&

WOW thanks for the info ! It's nice to see my motor ! So we still have a question about the outdrive. My Propshaft is threaded and accepts a bolt thru the cone. Also my Drive has an oil fill plug in under the plate on the housing. There's no vent plugs or anything on the outside of the drive. Also it has tilt but no trim. (my dash has a warning indicator that tells you when the drive is latched and goes out when it;s locked)
so I have a 270 or 275 ? What was the major difference ?
I've had some water intrusion in the outdrive and would like to troubleshoot further... But I 'd like to make sure I'm lokoing at the right drive manual. I pressure tested the leg and the propshaft was good as was the shifter plate was good.....was getting some bubbles outta the Oil Fill plug (prev owner has the wrong washer installed).....But I'd like to dig in further and see possibly where the most common water intrusion comes from. Also the prop needs replaced and I cant read the numbers...any ideas on the type of pitch and dia ? It's on a 1985 bayliner trophy...thanks for all the help ! I've got som reading to do !
So when looking for parts I look under AQ151 ? Or still try and match volvo 250 whenever possible ?

"On this link you can see the upper gear housing for a 270

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&grou p=3462&GroupList=3432,3433,3434,3435,3436,3437,3438,3439,3440,3441,3442,3443,344 4,3445,3446,3448,3447,3449,3450,3451,3452,3453,3454,3455,3456,3457,3458,3459,346 0,3461,3462,3463

and here you can see the upper gear housing for a 275

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&grou p=1921&GroupList=1923,1922,1899,1901,1902,1903,1904,1900,1924,1905,1906,1907,190 8,1909,1910,1925,1926,1911,1927,1912,1913,1914,1915,1916,1917,1928,1929,1930,193 1,1932,1939,1919,1934,1935,1920,1936,1921,1937,1938,1940

It looks like the cover for the 270 has a vent, but not the one for the 275. Other than that, both units look pretty much alike.

Regarding the water intrusion, it is common to find a bit of water or to have emulsified oil if the boat is constantly in the water. Drain it and use fresh oil (10-30 or 10-40), then check a few months after. If the contamination is severe, you will have to endeavour to find the source of the water ingress. The most common sources are the shaft seal, the shift seal and the dipstick and drain plug gaskets.

Regarding the prop, the diameter and pitch are usually stamped in the hub (forward or aft) you may have to sand the area to be able to read them.

Regarding parts, if you go a VP dealer they should have the parts book for the 250, but if you cannot find it (especially for Sierra parts), the AQ151 should be a safe bet."

Thanks again for all the info.

Thanks again for all the info....
My upper cover plate has no Vent screw. which would say I have a 275...but the ID tag (which is missing) was attached to my cover plate with 4 screws. The 275 looks like one screw. I'm thinking i may have a 275 but still a little unsure. i did do a pressure test whith the drive attached to the boat. No leaks from the prop shaft and none from the shift plate cover but I was getting bubbles form the Oil fill plug(prev owner had wrong seal). When you say shaft seal ? Is that the prop seal ? and the shift seal is that the actual cover plate for the shifting mechanisim ?
I tlooks to me that the cover plate will not stop water from getting in behind it...so I guess thats the norm...
Thanks Joe IN Ohio !
