Time to tackle the wiring on m

Time to tackle the wiring on my 1966 Californian. Lots of do it your selfers had their hand in this boat over the years. Original harness cutoff behind helm station. Wires start off one color and by the time they make it from start to finish point they may have had 3 different colors and 2 splices on them. Can you guys chime in on common colors and what application. Are they standard in the marine industry or do each manufacturer have their own color scheme?
Thanks
Jim

The 'oddballs' are in the 'unique' functions any given manufacturer adds. Most are really good about the engines and instruments....beyond that, its a cost driver.

Do your self a huge favor and use fine stranded, tinned wire. Ancor is a great brand but very pricey. There is lots of MIL-
SPEC stuff on the surplus market if yoou are willing to hunt for it, too.

There was a movement back a few years ago to redefine the marine standards due to some 'incidents' where boats had AC power. Seems they got confused about which BLACK wire they were working with.......there may be more at ancor's www site or maybe an AB&YC press release."

follow the purple lead(s&#

follow the purple lead(s) off the ignition switch. that's the 'supply" to the gauges.

May also have "lost" the ground lead on the gauges.
