"I have an 1979 90 hp L6. The #6 cylinder is not firing. I have ruled out the plug by switching with #5. I read a topic that said to disconnect the jumper wire between the switch packs and if it fires, the other switch pack is bad. I disconnected and it made no difference. I have continuity on the spark plug wire. I can not find any reference of what to check next. Coil or something else?"

"I switched coils with #5 and #6 still is not firing. Battery voltage is fine, disconnected rectifier, still no firing. Any other suggestions? Did not see anything else under troubleshooting other than DVA checks, but I do not have a DVA meter. Thanks."

If # 6 did not fire with input

If # 6 did not fire with input from # 5 then I would suspect the coil. The rectifier on this engine has nothing to do with ignition and it should not be disconnected.
