OUTBOARD PROP PITCH

"To be really sure you need to

"To be really sure you need to know your RPMs at WOT. When you run above or below the recommended RPMs, you are loosing power."

"Mike, take the above advice.

"Mike, take the above advice. You really need a tach to determine what pitch you should be running - lists/charts or looking to see "what some other guy" is running is of NO USE to your particular setup, even if you both have the exact same boat.

Depending on the model year of your motor, it will have a Wide Open Throttle range (say 5000-5600 for example), that would put your optimum WOT at about 5400.

Your 18 foot bass boat with a full tank of gas, 2 extra batteries for an electric motor and a "normal" load of 3 beer drinking buddies is going to use a drastically different pitch that "Bob" would use with the same boat who goes out with his 10 year old kid and half a tank of gas and only a single battery (see why a chart is of little value).

To pitch properly you need to know your total rig weight which can then be thrown into a prop calculator to give you a starting point - OR you take your rig out as you "normally run it" and open her up and observe what the tach tells you. If it's out of your WOT range for your motor, you change the prop....."
