"On my engine a Volvo Penta TM

"On my engine a Volvo Penta TMD 30, there is a siphon hose on the exhaust system. I understand it is to prevent backfow into the engine under certain conditions but I am wondering if sea water is supposed to be passing thru these hoses when the engine is running? I have recently cleaned out some salt deposits in the siphon assembly and fully expected that while I had it apart and the engine was running I might see some water coming out. Here is a schematic of the part but it isn't exactly the same configuration as I have.

Appreciate any advice if sea water is supposed to be passing thru these hoses when the engine is running."

There is water flowing in line

There is water flowing in lines. May not be enough at lower rpm to exit open valve. Valve is designed to close of flow when operating and opening to vent when flow is stopped.
