    I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to install a thermostat on a 1964 merc 500. Motor is not made with a housing for one but I'm curious if there is a way to bipass the cooling water through an external thermostat

    1964 merc 500 inconsistent idle

    I have a 1965 merc 500. It starts and idles fine but after running for a minute or so it starts to bog and sometimes dies. To get it into gear I have to up the idle then once in gear I have to punch it a bit and then it's fine for a while at idle. Runs ruff between idle and half throttle but...

    1965 merc 50 hp no spark

    I've been working on getting a merc 500 going after buying it from a friend. Hasn't run in 10 years so first thin I did was checked the gear oil in the Lower unit, change the impeller clean carbs etc. But no spark. Replaced condencer and cleaned points. Nothing. Any ideas?
