Rev counter oddness and tilt guage reading too low.

I'm not too good with electrics so maybe you can help... The rev counter for my BF225 is over reading above 2k revs, but at idle it seems OK. When I turn the engine off it drops down to 1000 rather than zero. When I turn the inginion back on it drops back to zero. At the same time my tilt...

    BF225 rough running

My 225 didn't get used at all last year and I'm having a couple of little issues this year: As per an earlier post the tilt/trim indicator is reading much lower than it should - it was fine when the boat went into the water in July but suddenly started mis-reading. At the same time the rev...

BF225 Tacho reading high and trim guage too low 😫

Took my 2007 225 out today to check it out after some very wet and windy weather recently. The engine ran OK but I noticed that the taco was reading about a thousand revs too high when running and when the engine was off it went down to 1000 until I turn the ignition back on and then it would...

2007 BF225 First start in over 18 months

For a few reasons this engine has not been used for nearly 2 years. After new fuel filters, water separator and oil change I turned the key!! Gotta love a Honda!

How do we feel about cheap fuel filters?

Just gathering parts to service my 225 and I'm fairly horrified at the cost of an original Honda high pressure fuel filter (£30-40 here in the UK). A quick search on eBay shows Chinese (yeah, I know) filters for about £6! Now if this was an oil filter I wouldn't start to consider it, but this...

    Occasional running through the winter?

In the past my 225 hasn't been run between the end of Sept and April/May but this year I was going to run it occasionally in a big tank to keep things lubricated and moving. Is this a good idea and, if so, how often and for how long - is 30 minutes enough every 4 weeks, or more often/longer...

O ring alternative that buy you beer

Just replaced the high pressure fuel filter on my BF225 and realised I didn't have a new O ring (16078-ZY3-000). Typically I couldn't find any oem here in the UK and those from boats.net cost over $10 each, so I started looking for alternatives. After some careful measuring I ordered a pack of...

Reinstalling BF225 lower unit having turned engine over with LU off

Just refitting my LU and can't get it on the last inch - I'm pretty sure the drive shaft isn't aligned with the motor and this is because I turned the engine over while the LU was off! Can I put the LU into gear and turn the prop until it aligns?

Fitting modified exhausts to my 225

Modified exhaust kit has arrived from Boats.net and I've managed to deal with UPSs' ineptitude when it comes to paying UK import duty and taxes. Today I've taken my time removing the bottom end off my 225 engine - it's taken a couple of hours but I wanted to do it right. Took the extension case...

One spark plug is too clean - modified exhaust tube time

Pulled the plugs on my 06 225 the other day and #3 was too clean for my liking. Engine runs fine but does blow HO2 sensors on a regular basis. This engine has had the updated ECU and HO2 sensor fitted (as per SB 70 I think) so I thought that the modified idle exhaust tubes would have also...

Which wiring harness do I need?

One for the techs..... I've just picked up a Honda digital speedo that I'd like to use with my 2006/7 BF225. - which wiring harness do I need to connect this to the engine? (Hoping it's a 06326-zy3-801)

    Time to replace this anode?

What do we think..... still got life in it or replace it? (Tilt/Trim anode on BF225)

Best way to lift the engine?

My 225 sits on a jack plate and I'd like to mount it higher on the plate as it's on the lowest position (i.e. the top mounting holes) at the moment. I have an engine hoist that easily capable of lifting the 225 so no issues there. My question is, should I simply attach something to the two...

Anybody dismantled the IAB on a BF225?

Last year I lubed the IAB on my 2007 BF225 as it was a bit stiff but freed up nicely. This year it's very stiff again and I'm currently giving it a bath in WD40 to see if it frees up again - but I'm wondering if it's possible to remove the baffles to do a better clean/lube job? Anybody removed...

    So...... oil.

I was reading an old thread where 25w-40 was suggested rather than 10w-30 as it would 'cling' better and thus give more protection to an engine that's been sat for a number of months. It's probably not warm enough in the UK to go with 25w-40 so I use 10w-40 semi-synthetic in my 225. Is it...

Honda 135..... Good or best avoided?

My sister might be looking at a RIB that's running a 2007 Honda 135. It's an ex sailing school boat do I'd imagine it's had a fair bit of use. Before I can get any further info is this model basically good out does it have it's demons?

The importance of a clean IAC

My boat has been sitting at the house for about 7 weeks and I've not yet got round to winterising it (we went away for some fun in the sun!) so today I moved it into the barn and ran the [2007] 225 in a large tank (a 1000L IBC with the top chopped off) of fresh water to give it a flush...

    225 alternator light on constantly

Not been to the boat for a couple of weeks but I did know that my engine battery (of unknown age - certainly > 5 years old) had died a few weeks ago but I switched the Blue Seas (ACR) switch to emergency and the house battery fired it straight up. I ran (mostly idling) with the odd blast...

Voltage at the gauge and real life discrepancy

My Honda voltage gauge shows 12.5 - 13v while running which got me wondering if the system was charging properly (even though I've not had any issues). So yesterday I took a multimeter out with me and checked the vintage at the battery switch and it was a solid 14v (plus a little bit) which...

I've decided that O2 sensors are consumables!

Yesterday I fitted a new O2 sensor to my 225 and it's back to running perfectly again (it was giving a code 1 alarm after extended idling, e especially after a longish run) The engine is an ’06/'07 and has the updated sensor and ECU - I don't know about the modified exhaust tubes but I would...
