    Have you tried trimming the motor in/down? If the motor is trimmed out/up too far it will be louder than normal due to the exhaust exiting the water directly Bob.

    They idle quite slow when in gear, about 650 RPM. There is an adjustable idle air bleed, but it is unlikely it will need adjusting.     I did check this and it seems ok. I did purchase a new one with my rebuild parts and the new one was definitely larger. I could not use it as it wouldn’t fit the housing.
