Any E10 (Ethanol) problems you are aware of on older engines?

I've used 91 octane fuel here in the USA forever on my AQ130C, which does contain ethanol per the sticker on the pump, and have never had an issue. I do add a can of SeaFoam to the fuel every other tank, so that may be a factor.

    New Dist

Just the Pertronix conversion kit. The distributor in mine is the OEM Bosch that is going strong after 51 years. In fact, since installing the Pertronix kit 17 years ago, I have not checked/adjusted the timing more than a few times and the engine runs great all the time.

    New Dist

I'm lucky being in the dry air of central Northern California.

    New Dist

Not to argue, and call me lucky I guess, and I am sure it varies depending on how much you use the boat, weather conditions, etc. but I've gone at least 5 years, without replacing my cap or rotor on my AQ130C with Pertronix ignition with absolutely no issues.

Neutral safety switch for 270 drive?

Thanks. I would have no idea how to hook it up though.

Neutral safety switch for 270 drive?

Thanks Capt. Do you know of a part number that I can check out? Or maybe the specific kind of microswitch made by DigiKey or Mouser?

Neutral safety switch for 270 drive?

Is it possible to add a neutral safety switch to a 270 outdrive paired with an old-school side mounted Morse controller similar to the one in the attached pic? Or do you have to replace the entire controller? After 20+ years of owning this boat, while I always check to be sure the throttle is...

    270 outdrive slippage?

Thank you Ricardo and Capt Bob. I may have previously drawn a line across the hub/face of the prop so I will remove the prop and check to see.

    270 outdrive slippage?

Yea, I know about doing that and will do. Luckily, if it slipping, the prop I was using is a lower pitch than the prop I normally run with because we had 4 people in the boat this time.

    270 outdrive slippage?

Thanks. The fact that my boat performed normally for the next 15 miles tells me that the hub was not causing any prop slippage, or can the slippage be so minimal that you would not notice it?

    270 outdrive slippage?

Yesterday, while on plane in my 17' v-hull runabout while cruising through some areas that had clumps of floating grass in it, suddenly it sounded like my prop slipped. I immediately backed off the throttle and turned the engine off, the raised the outdrive to check and see if any grass had...

Adding neutral safety switch for 270 outdrive?

My 1972 runabout has the AQ130 engine and 270 outdrive with the vintage style shifter (Teleflex?). Is it possible to add a neutral safety switch to it? I am guessing not since the shifter is strictly mechanical with no wires or connectors.

    AQ130C: Water in oil

Thanks Bob. I drained off a little more oil after letting it sit overnight and that oil looks good. So, I am guessing the first sample contained what little water was left in the pan. I am going to take the boat for a cruise while closely monitoring the oil at the dipstick and hope for the...

    AQ130C: Water in oil

Forgive the long post. This is for my Volvo Penta AQ130C four cylinder push rod engine, which was discovered to have water in the oil a few months ago when I went to do the annual oil change. Water in Oil Engine had not been run since was worked on by a mechanic last Fall to resolve an...

    AQ130C and stuck oil filter

As part of my spring maintenance after the boat being not used since early October 2021, I was going to change the oil and filter. However, the oil filter is not coming off. I have tried a standard oil filter strap type wrench as well as two different flute cap style wrenches that you use with...

Post raw water cooling pump filter?

Has anyone ever installed a filter of some kind after the water pump on a raw water cooled engine? The impeller in my water pump for my AQ130C engine failed a few years ago and I had to remove the oil cooler and the cooling tube leading to the cooler to find the broken impeller pieces, and then...

AQ130C and constant amp light after ignition switch replacement

I had to replace the keyed ignition switch for my AQ130C equipped boat because the OEM one suddenly lost it's tactile positions (Off, ACC, Run, Start were not felt when the key was turned). I replaced it with an ignition switch from Napa Auto Parts that had the same rear terminal configuration...

On trailer engine testing with 270 outdrive

Something that has nagged me for many years is "Do I need to have the outdrive (a 270) lowered all the way in order to run the engine while the boat is on the trailer?". On my slopped driveway, I have always had to lower the tongue of the trailer all the way down in order to be able to lower...

Looking for OEM ignition switch for old AQ130C/270

My starter switch broke today on my 1972 boat with AQ130C engine and 270 outdrive...the ACC/Off/Run/Start positions just quit on me suddenly at the dock while I was trying to get the engine started. So, I am looking to replace it with another OEM switch hopefully so it will be "plug and play"...

270 outdrive oil level reading tip

I don't know about anyone else who changes the oil on their 270 outdrive, but I always have a hard time reading the level on the dipstick after filling it with new oil. I just changed the oil and this time I decided I would take a black permanent marker and make the min/max area on the dipstick...
