"96 J25TELEDA CANT GET LOWER UNIT OFF

Your 1st photo looks like you hit the edge of that plate with the mallet. What about using a block of wood…hold it against the metal, close in to the inside edge. Then you can use quite a bit more force, without breaking that thin edge off.

6hp yamaha 4 stroke missfiring/shaking at higher rpm

That video is way to much work, might as well spend $10 & buy one. I thought my photo would be self explanatory… Stick the end with the bolt into your sparkplug boot- the bolt is only there to hold the wire inside the boot, you could also just bend the copper wire into an appropriate sized loop...

6hp yamaha 4 stroke missfiring/shaking at higher rpm

Make a spark tester out of a few scraps, like this. You can use any method to hold the wires, hot glue gun, a short bit of wood or metal with a screw through it etc. Like their motorcycles, Japanese motors usually use NGK. They are fine.

Need info on Ted Williams 7.5 outboard

Look at post #3 in this thread. Once you open/download the manual, oil ratios are on page 3. Your motor, the 217 denotes a Sears Ted Williams badged motor, they used Ted Williams as an endorsement. I have a 1970 5.5 my dad bought new. Here is the list of TW (Eska) motors, these people also have...

    ESKA Owners and parts manual

My scanner won’t work with the new computer..& I dont have a digitized copy…I know, should have had it backed up. I can take photos of each page & email them to you. Don’t get too excited, the owners manual really does not have much in it. Things like don’t put your foot in the prop etc! Scroll...

Options to using a boat lift

You can pump the entire Mississippi down your hull…if the water is of the staining type, it will stain. If you can buy, & fuel a Mastercraft, you can afford a lift. There is a fairly decent waterski club just down the shore from me, they have three courses. Mastertcraft, Ski Nautique, Malibu…not...

    Water leak

Would you call a car dealer & give him the lack of information posted here, &;expect the service dept to help, you? These service techs shouldn’t have to pull teeth to get basic information. Post some photos showing the leak area, state what year model motor.

As said, it’s an ‘88 Model decodes as per the following, Evinrude 15hp rope start, 1988. The final “S” is a revision within the ‘88 year.

    Drain plug leaking

As Mako said, try tightening. That works for plugs that are inserted into a smooth drain hole. Most plugs with the rubber can be “expanded” by turning the pull knob on them clockwise. I have one on my tinny that I have to hold a small brass nut while turning the “handle”. Most, just insert them...

    Has anyone done this before?

Those little tubes have a very annoying tendency to fly off the nozzle. When using them, if there’s any depth to the cavity being sprayed, I use two hands, & hold the tube. Or else I place a zip tie around the tube, close to the can. If (when), it does fly off, the zip tie prevents it falling...

    Plugs and gas

Look up the MDS sheet, it’s “additive” is mostly alcohol. Alcohols are very good solvents, & so work well to keep things clean. They are also very good at absorbing water, & will bind & move small amounts of water through the system. Problems happen when it’s left to sit in vented tanks, absorbs...

2004 Johnson 150 (Bombardier) Sat for likely 3 years

It’s a fools game to get hung up on a couple in/lbs, either way. Frankly, I’ve never used a torque wrench on small screws. Do it by feel. Undo them, see if the bend disappears. Re-do them by feel, using a tiny bit of Blue Loctite, they won’t come out.

2004 Johnson 150 (Bombardier) Sat for likely 3 years

Remmeber, you’re only sealing against atmospheric pressure, it doesn’t take much to make those O rings seal. I’ve got 2 motors on the bench where previous owners thought more was better, & cracked the plastic top plate. $$ Torque specs on little screws can make for serious pain. If the...
