    My serial number has only 6 digits (and 1 letter). I cannot identify.

    I was given a Johnson motor with a 30HP cowling. The stern drive assembly needed replacement so the original i.d. plate was trashed.     To Screw or Not To Screw ... that is the question!

    Should I unscrew the tilt tube or do I hammer it out to change it. I'm tempted to put a large pipe wrench on the exposed threaded area but want to hear from someone who's done this before (I worry that I'll make things worse). It's a 1987 40HP Mariner.
