I have a 1980 70 HP Johnson. I just had the carbs rebuilt, there is 3 carbs. For some reason the top carb is not opening or closing. Is there a way to fix this and if so how.

Did you install the rebuilt carburetors ?---Why were the carbs rebuilt ?----Are the linkages hooked up ?----Was there warranty from the shop ?

No my cousin rebuilt them and the reason for the rebuild were all plugged up full of crap yes the linkages are hooked up and no warranty due to it was no done in a shop n yes he does have experience doing this kind of work for he works for a marine

LOL I'm very sure he can but I came here to see if I can get any advice to do it myself wanted to learn but I guess I'm in the wrong spot for help. Thanks anyways

Sorry mate - am not a mind reader.----My chrystal ball is broken.-----I can not see or hold your carburetor in my hands.----Be an easy fix on my work bench !!

If you removed the carbs, & subsequently after re-installing them one does not open…it has to be something in the linkage.
Have you looked very closely at the parts diagram to see if a tiny piece was not installed, or done up?
Do you have a factory service manual, that should explain link & sync.
All parts are shown here,

Yeh i bet it would of been a easy fix on your bench probably because you have lots of experience with these kind of jobs and new people like my self come here to try n get information so we can get experience with things like this and more but im not sure if i want to try any thing else lol

There can not be much wrong.-----But how can anyone help you when you say--- " top carburetor is not opening or closing , is there a way to fix this."-----Not much information to go by !!

Perhaps take a few good photos, showing the linkages, & post them. They have to be 1Mb or smaller to post here.
Ok ty boat is at my campground i will try to get out there on the weekend. If I get out there. Do i just came back to this chat and add photos

wow just asked a question hoping to get info on how to fix something but i guess that's to much to ask for in here so u say its a 30 second fix my question is why is no one helping me with info on how to do it

We have. Read post #12 and #25 again. Look at what moves the butterflies when someone advances the throttle. It will be obvious what parts move.
Two of yours currently move…look at what makes them move. Then tighten the fitting in the one that doesn’t move, making it in synch with the others. It really cannot be simplified anymore.
