    Crusader 454 gas engine

    Had the same presentation. Turned out to be the oil pressure switch that powers the electric fuel pump. After an hour or so the supply voltage to the fuel pump would drop from 12+ volts to aroiund 4 volts and the rpms would drop to little more than idle. Newe switch fixed the problem.

    Overheat Alarm System

    The overtemp alarm is triggered by a thermal switch on the filler neck. Searched for the exact temperature that the switch closes but was not successful. Anyone know the temp spec on the switch (sender) ?

    Engine Alignment

    Getting the 454s aligned next week. I know the desired misalignment is not more than about .003 inch but what is the maximum allowable. One mechanic told me up to .007 inch is OK. Sounds like a bit much to me. What say you old heads. FL Panhandle

    The brass fittings that hold the pencil zincs on my heatexchangers and the associated bungs are showing accelerated external galvaniccorrosion. Is this because the exchangers are not grounded ? Would attaching a ground to the fittings slow(or increase) the corrosion ? Anyoneelse have this...

    In general, what conditions result in maximum MPGs ? Cruising at idle, trolling speed, just enough rpm to stay on the plane, or wide open/red line ?

    Coolant Flush

    Looking for a good technique to drain the coolant out of my 454s and flush the system. Drain plugs are completely inaccessible. Would like to remove coolant without filling the bilge or running afoul with the EPA. Is there a way to capture all the old coolant ?

    On a 454XL (carbed) engine, what does the ECM do and how does it do it ? Thinking it principally controls ignition timing but would like to know what else. Will the engine revert to "limp mode" if the ECM dies ?
