Spark plug terminal comes off for these wires?

Bought new plugs and a Sierra ignition wire set for the boat engine, a 1962 Volvo Penta BB70. Ignition wires wouldn't go on over the plug terminals, but slipped on nicely after I unscrewed the terminals. I did a little Googling and found that some ignition wires are designed to slip directly...

    What is the function...?

Ricardo, after comparing your diagram to my outdrive, I see differences. My drive has a steering rod coming out above the helmet and going into the top of the upper gear housing. What do I do with it? Also is there a cover plate on the rear of the upper housing that I need to remove to get to...

    What is the function...?

...of the rubber bellows that covers -- I think -- the universal joint at the connection just outside the transom where the outdrive connects to the engine? Is it supposed to contain the oil that's splashed on that joint?

    Reverse adjustmemt on AQ100

According to the manual, I need to make this adjustment to the reverse latch and pin. Mine is quite a bit more than 0.020" I've loosened the clamp screw as the manual directed, but the pin still won't move. Is there another step I'm missing, or is it probably just stuck and needs a tap?

No cotter pin to secure prop cone to shaft

Every time I look at something for the first time on this 1964 AQ100 I find something at which to marvel. This time I was looking at the prop with a mind to remove it and look at the shear pin. The first thing I see when looking at the cone one unscrews to remove the is that there is no place...

o-ring leak on aq100 after oil change

Apparently, I didn't get the o-ring seated correctly after changing the oil on my AQ100. The oil cooier assembly is horizontal, which made me nervous to begin with, and then that narrow o-ring... oh my. Is there a trick to holding the filter, the bolt, the spring, and the o-ring with one...

    Volvo Penta mix'n'match

OK, something funny's going on here. I've got a definite BB70 engine. I've also called it an AQ100, but I haven't yet found a picture of an AQ100 that looks anything like mine, but the BB70 is a definite match. My outdrive has the parallel vertical shift connectors rather than the crossed...

    Oil cooler on a BB70?

What's inside it? Is it a filter I replace/clean? Thanks again

Is there something magical/evil about the AQ100?

Today, poking around on the internet, I found a link to manualslib.com for an AQ100 manual. I did a bit of background investigation before I clicked on it, but they looked legit, so I did, and lo and behold I come to a document labeled "Volvo Penta AQ100 Operator's Manual." Oh frabjous day...

    Odd electrical part

Not really an engine issue, but some of the gauges connect to this and I have no clue. My guess is a condenser of some kind...

    Thanks to all your help

Here's the first startup of the 1964 AQ100 witih its new fuel system and Racor water separator filter. Still has the original yucky oil in it, so I only ran for 30 seconds or so, just to listen to her purrl..

a couple of questions as I prepare to restart the engine with the new fuel lines

The instructions for my Racor filter say to fill the filter with gas before installing it to the fixture. That leaves about 10-12' of fuel line to get to the fuel pump. With the original pump in place, can it self-prime and draw the gas down the line without more priming? I also thought...

    Replacing throttle/sifter control

Here's a pic of the bracket from underneath. What looks to be the top is the starboard gunwale. Also attached is a pic of the cable connection to the carbuerator. Not sure of the purpose of that spring, but it looks important and I just know it's gonna want to fly off in some direction as soon...

    Replacing throttle/sifter control

I need to replace my throttle and shifter cables (and maybe the shift lever bos too), and I thought that removing the four screws that held the throttle box to the gunwale would let me pull the control out of the gunwale and replace the cables on that end. Instead, there's a large bracket on...
