My next project engine.
This is what greeted me this spring:
I'm guessing I must have picked up a bit of water in my oil and it froze
and cracked the gearbox. First time this has happened to me.
Oil leaks out from the exhaust too.
These gearboxes were used on so many V4 engines over the...
My 1961 Evinrude 10hp seems to be getting water in the gearbox turning my oil into a chocolate milk shake.
Bummer.
The power head runs great so I would like to save this engine from the scrap heap.
No oil leaks from the output seal:
My theory is the water is getting in through the seal under...
Greetings all.
I have a 1961 Evinrude 10hp (10022).
The engine runs like a champ but it gets water in the gearcase so it looks like it's time

B. Min Timing Advance
C. Throttle Engagement Point
D. Carb Sync
E. Relationship between Throttle...

This is the condition after a couple of trips both involving some hi speed running and idling up and down the river to the marina.
Maybe someone else would like to comment too...

I noticed my timer base hits its full advance stop pretty early in the throttle movement.
Is there a mark on the throttle cam that shows were full timing advance should be?
Right now my full timing advance is just...
Here are a couple thirty second videos of my E115TLCIM idling.
My question is this:
A: does this engine sound happy and healthy?
B: this engine sounds like it has a cold.
C: this engine sounds fine for it age...what were you expecting?
D: you should put the engine out of your misery.
E: we...
