" When I shut off my 1995 5.7 the temp goes up about 15 degrees from the 180 degree running temp, shutting down fast after wot the temp goes way up. Is this normal or only normal if something is about to break? thanks, jack "

Any engine will do that because the water is no longer circulating and sits there picking up heat. Sometimes you don't see it because the gauge isn't working when the key is off. It's normal.

Thanks for the response, it's not often I get out of something so cheaply. This is a great web site, thanks again, jack "

"Eddie nailed it, but I still winced when you mentioned shutting down fast after WOT. Do your engine a favor and let it idle for a little while after a hard run. WOT puts a lot of heat in the heads, so let the water carry it away before shutting down.
