I have a Merc 5.0 228 IO that

I have a Merc 5.0 228 IO that grinds when put in reverse. Was told cables need to be adjusted possibly. Does outdrive need to be dropped to do this and is it a DIY job? Thanks for the help.

Question - Everytime I put my

Question - Everytime I put my engine in drive I get a "grinding" noise and the engine hesitates before going into gear. It only happens when I put it in forward - not reverse. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Dan

Your shift cable need

Daniel;
Your shift cable needs adjusting or you need a new lower shift cable. You should start a new topic of your own rather than piggy-back on someone else's. More people will read it that way and you will get better results.
