When I switched from my original 351 Merc points/condenser ignition to a Prestolite electronic unit my engines ran terrible. I checked the voltage at the coil and I only got 7.5 volts. This was using the start switch on the flybridge. Using the lower station switch I got 10.0 volts and the engines ran fine. Do electronic ignition systems require higher input voltage than conventional systems?
Thanks
