"Yall,
Just a howdy doo and big thank you. The rebuild on my antique barge is coming along nicely.
The motor is done and ready to install. We have parts to work on the stern and gimbal/bell assembly. Fuel system parts and ignition parts should be here by Labor day.
I have some pics on photobucket and testing this link works from my pc. Hope some of you can enjoy as well.
Of course you know I am going to be back on this site again. By the way the SEARCH engine works really well. I have found many answers on previous posts.

Thanks again for the help.

"She does have some classic lines. We pulled up in a storage yard just a year ago and we both said how that boat way over on the ridge was classic looking. Wouldn't it be cool if .....
Then the yahoo showing us in stopped right in front of her.
She was stinking of old gas, garbage and rot from sitting in the elements for 16 years. My son and I were not phased a bit, we shelled out the $500, got her road ready, then dragged her on home.
The cleats and bow light are Tom Faul design. We found a shop that will refurbish that old pot metal. I could ramble all night.
Thank yall for the kind words. Makes a hard job a little more bearable."

Very nice indeed. I can appreciate all your hard work since I have been doing the same over the last year. I like your photo of the wiring mess. That always seems to be the norm with old boats.

"EJ,
We were sitting on the old stringers last fall trying to decide what had to be torn out and what could be saved. We cleaned the main harness coupling, trimed the other ends back 6" and got good ohm readings on the eight main leads. The rest of the wire was sent to the recyle center. The 42 years of mess was too mind blowing to address. What are you rebuilding?

"I bought a 84 26' Sleekcr

"I bought a 84 26' Sleekcraft over a year ago. Just finished a complete re-gel on her. I took her over to the upholster to have a complete interior put in. The boat is stripped down with all new or refurbished hardware sitting now in my garage. I sold the old mercrusier 350 and outdrive to a guy in Hawaii. Bought a 502 short block which I built over the last year and a new bravo and gimball still sitting on the pallet. Since I have never installed a gimbal before I will picking the brains of the experts here for help. I just finish wiring my engine and came out very clean. Everything runs to a mercruiser plug. Take a look.

"So, are you going to use that

"So, are you going to use that boat or just take it around to the boat shows? That is just plain awesome! When are you coming over to my house and wiring my barge??
I have been pondering how to bundle the wiring. What is that stuff?"

"It's heat reflective spli

"It's heat reflective split loom. I got it from mcmaster.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#split-loom-tubing/=39ckst

Actually wiring is very easy. Grab a schematic and look for the shortest route to run the wires. Run the wires first. After your done sit back and look what can be ran more efficient like a common ground or 12v supply. Then add the split loom and clamps. Step your split loom down in size as the number of wires decrease in the loom. I used a stainless tie strap placed just before any wire exit point."

"Heat reflective loom. I woul

"Heat reflective loom. I would never had thought of it. What do you have on the ends before the terminal boot, heat shrink?
I have shown your pics to some of the motor heads here in the office. You have them drooling. Again, super nice job."

$$$$$$$$$ for a boat is one o

$$$$$$$$$ for a boat is one of those things that most here do not have the resources for.

Oh by the way it is not coast guard reg for the valve cover breathers to be open to the bildge area and is the air cleaner coast guard approved???

Also is that a marine fuel pump? no third hose incase the diaphram tears...

Just some observations

But looks sweet!!

looks real nice! But you are building a boat not a car.
I see alot of automotive parts there.ege...dist. alt. and carb.

Did you design the cooling system? I'd like to see more of that.

"You are out of touch with tod

"You are out of touch with today's products. The engine is 100% marine. The Distributor is a dui marine 7000.

http://www.performancedistributors.com/marinedui.htm

The alternator is a 100 amp marine rated like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chrome-alternator-jet-boat-marine-delco-glastron- 455-_W0QQitemZ220466438543QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090814?IMSfp=TL0908141510003r10 127

and the carb is a Barry Grant Sea Demon 850

http://www.cpperformance.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=235&Manufacturer=13

The air cleaner is from KN and coast guard approve as is the breathers.

http://www.knfilters.com/marine/flamearrester.htm

The hose for the fuel pump hasn't been added yet. The raw water pump is a mercruiser part incorporating the fuel pump.

http://www.ebasicpower.com/p/MER46-807151A8/Raw

Also a march pulley set has been added. Most of these parts are less then replacing them with the OEM mercruiser brand. Thanks."

"Ej Breeze,
I would have bet good money those filters were automobile parts. And of course I would have lost good money. It's good to learn a new thing each day.

Thanks for the info. I saved the K&N filter link.
That's one pretty motor.

"Sorry not out of touch.......

"Sorry not out of touch........

Used barry grant marine products many times,

The breathers may be marine rated but it is reccomended to plumb them to the air cleaner/arrestor to keep the fumes pulled into the combustion system.

I would differ with the K&N bieng flame retardent but I will research it more.

I use K&N on all my stuff EXCEPT my boat so I have not looked into coast guard safe/approved.

Fuel pump over flow........Understood.

Alt/dist have seen them before.........

I have also used MArch pulleys and parts to do dress up on autos not marine. Not to many peoples boats I worked on ever cared much about how dressed out they were only that they run good.

again looks good.

Oh one more thing, Are you planning on high speed only? with that intake you may not have much 650 rpm - 2000 rpm performance and actually may have some minor stumbling.

That manifold looks like one good for 3000 + rpm's.

Good luck and let us know how it runs!"
