"Hi gang,
I have a sleepy tilt motor on my Model 800 and am getting worried it my not work one of these times (i have to wake it up with a hammer and someone has to operate the switch at the same time) and leave me either on the docks or in the water. Is it possible to remove and replace this without removing the outdrive as it states in my manual?

Not sure if you have a replacement tilt motor yet or not. You didn't supply your model number, but I believe your OEM Tilt Motor Number would be 982058 and the replacement would be 18-6755"

"I removed the tilt motor from my 800, unhook wires to tilt motor and remove bolts, do not pull bolts out of tilt motor itself, they keep the guts aligned, unscrew bolts enough to free motor from outdrive assembly. sounds like a bad bushing or brushes are worn, that's a cheap fix at a rebuild shop."
