"Hi all,
while refitting my gearbox to my 290 leg after reinstalling the engine, when hooking up the linkages i noticed the rod that goes from the linkage down to the reverse pawl latch was disconnected. I have reconnected the rod and the shifter is solid while trying to shift to reverse. Im hoping its just a bit siezed, but im not sure on the operation of the system. I havent yet had the boat in the water, and the owner before me assured me he had been out and the only problem was the grinding noise (bellhousing bearings, fixed that). Could the boat of functioned ok without the reverse pawl connected? Could anyone suggest the best way to check the operation of the system.
