"I have a Volvo 290 DP which was fully serviced 5hrs ago.
The drive has performed without fault however, on my last trip the drive developed a delay of about 20 seconds before going into forward gear (reverse is fine).
I have checked the cabels and all seems fine.
Any ideas?????"

"I would check again the forward shift adjustment, and that the cable attachment at the end of the intermediate housing is secured in place and not loose (parts 28, 29 & 50).

I would also, verify the cable attachment to the shift lever by the driver's seat.

From the back of my mind, I cannot think of any other reason for the symptoms you describe."
 
Slipped boat at weekend and as

Slipped boat at weekend and asked mechanic to take a look at drive.
Found the clutch cone had glazed (why we don't know)and the selector cable needed replacing. Still a delay in selecting forward drive but seems to be geting better.
