Water leaking in/oil leaking out 1995 40HP 4cyl merc.

Hi;

So I've recently purchased a 4cyl 2 stroke merc. Ran fine for a couple of months and then started leaking oil out of the prop. Long story short; replaced both prop seals, had the prop shaft machined (it had a gouge in it), replaced the bearing carrier, and replaced the O-ring. It still leaks oil and takes in water after all that, both in the lake and on the muffs. Ideas?

Water pump area seals leaking, or the shifter shaft--seen a bunch of them leak.

Thanks Jeff. I suspected them and I will pull the foot off to check. Just out of curiosity, if the water pump/**** seals are leaking, why would the resultant oil/water mix leak out of the back of the foot where the prop shaft is?

Replaced water pump seals and it still leaks running on muffs; water in the gear oil. Any ideas?

pressure test the gearcase. if you dont have a pressure tester, you can dunk it in the water and see where the bubbles are coming from.
