Water getting in through air vents

Hello i am looking for a solution to prevent salt water getting in through the air vents on the hood/cowl of my 150hp 4 stroke Seapro. The engine sits a little low on the boat so in rougher days water gets in. The only solution i can find online is to buy a vented cover, but wanted to check and see if there is any other preventive
measures? Photo attached of how badly the alternator rusted up.

Freshwater dealer here. We sell quite a few of the Mercury vented covers. Customers seem to like them, nice fit.
I don't know much about saltwater boating, but I would think you would want to remove it pretty often to clean the salt out.
Mercury really pushes the Corrosion Guard, Heavy Duty P/N 80287855. We can see the difference on customer engines that use it. Just don't get it on the rubber seal between the cowl and engine pan. Merc just came out with a Service Advisory that it can cause swelling of the rubber.
