volvo 5.0 stalls when starting one then the other?

I have twin 5.0 Gi volvo penta engines(GM). When I start the starboard engine then the port engine the starboard will stall. If I start in reverse order no engine stall. Not sure where the problem is. I have replaced the port alternator but did not fix the problem. Any sugestion?

Check the ground connections from the batteries to the engines. Also... what kind of battery switch arrangement do you have?

In addition to Bob's good questions, are these engines by chance sharing a cranking battery bank?

Have any automotive battery cables been used? (these often have inferior cable ends)

FYI: it is equally important that all Negative conductors are as capable as the Positive conductors ( i.e., cables and their respective terminals).
