Trim motor bad?

Started to put the trim down on my 2003 DPS and it got about a quarter of the way down and stopped, I checked the reset button it didn't fix it. About a month ago I was leaning my big butt on the trim switch without knowing it and it did trip the reset switch, but it has been fine the last to outings so my question is do you guys think it is the motor or is it maybe a relay? When you use the switch you can hear a clicking in the motor seems to me that it is the motor but thought I would check before ordering one. I didn't think it was a fuse because the motor does seem to be getting power I can feel it trying when I work the switch. Thanks for any input

Hi there, I had a similar problem with my motor, It got stuck, I removed the motor from the boat and touched the power wires on my car battery which was enough to free it, tried it in reverse too. Stuck it back on the boat and its been fine ever since. Not sure if this is your problem but worth a try, sometimes they just need that extra boost of power when not under load.

Good Luck:)

Hey thanks, I will give it a try can't hurt. I wonder what the average life of the trim motors are, I have friends that have boats 30 years old and there trim motors are still working fine.

I got a chance to work on the boat today and guess what when I pulled the wire plug to the motor it was a bear to get loose finally got it and the one side had melted slightly so I cleaned it up, and did what you said hooked the motor up to a battery it spun no trouble, reconnected everything and it works fine. I was thinking that when I was leaning on the trim switch a month ago that caused the breaker to trip it may have caused the wires to get hot enough to melt the plastic around the plug just enough to make for a bad connection. Happy for the help on this site and for a easy fix, Thanks again:)
