"Hi, I have two brand new Faria tachs and a synch between them. My tachs seem to be off by about 3-400 rpm, as per the sync, and my ear. How could this be? What would cause this?"

"Because Faria is a POS. I drove 65 miles today to replace a Faria tach in a brand new boat because it was reading 200 RPMs high at idle and could not be adjusted down. The new tach would adjust down to the actual idle speed but at WOT would read 4500. This would be great is it were a gas engine. It's a Cummins 370B with a max no-load speed of 3100 RPMs. If I set the max RPMs at the actual speed of 3100, when I came down to idle, the tach read 150 RPMs. The settings were correct, the adjustment was correct. I even checked to confirm the tach signal was correct. I reinstalled the old one and drove to my next job."

"I have a Crusader 454 (1985) in a "Californian" boat. The starboard tach oscillates like crazy (upper and lower station both) I cleaned all connections from the coil, replaced the coil, resistor and am lost what else to do. Connections at the tach are A OK. Also checked all the connections in the long harness that I could get to. I had just paid a mechanic to replace the points and condensor (minor tune) then the problem showed. Point bounce from the spring in the points? I am going crazy!"
