"Good morning. I have a 1988 Suzuki DT55. I had been having problems with the power trim, it would go up and down without any problems except when under power and then it did not like to go down, it would but made a lot of noise. A local mechanic told me to drain the system, refill, and bleed.

Well, I drained the system and now I can't get it to go up or down, the motor runs fine but I can't find any information anywhere on how to refill and bleed the system.

I noticed that RyBrown had a similar problem back in 2003 but didn't see any answers and can't find out how to contact him to see if he ever did find a solution.

Any help would be most appreciated as I spent the whole day yesterday trying to fix this thing and I'm no further ahead.

Thanks

Big Cliff"

"Well, it took me two days but I finally figured out how and (how not) to do it and got it working. seems like my problem is fixed.

PS.

DO NOT fill with the motor tilted up, this will over fill the unit and create a lot of pressure when you lower the motor. If you then remove the fill plug with the motor in the down position, you will have oil in your hair (and just about everywhere else).

Also, DO NOT remove the release valve to drain the unit, if you do, you will probably loose a very small seal that fits in the very back of the release valve housing and without that seal, the power trim will not work at all.

Hope this will help someone else!"

Old post. Would be better if you started a new post describing your issues in detail and telling us what you’ve done for troubleshooting. The above post is about tilt/trim and water pump impeller. You have issues with both?
