"hi all,
I started my motor

"hi all,
I started my motor a couple months ago and there was no water pumping. I replaced pump and inadvertantly pulled shift rod out.anyway I had to have a mechanic take apart and replaced seals while they were at it.when I put gearcase back on the motor would not turn over the starter engaged but did not have enough torque to turn it.(it turns ok without spark plugs) I had a guy replace brushes on the starter and he said the armature checked ok I reinstalled and still have the same problem...any ideas?
(}ps new battery)"

"thanks for the input...I have

"thanks for the input...I have a new battery and connected directly to starter....I'm just wondering if there is a commpresion release valve or maybe the starter is no good, even tho the guy who rebuilt it says that it should be ok...I hate to spend more money on the starter if thats not the problem"

At least connect a 12v light b

At least connect a 12v light bulb to the starter motor terminals so you get some kind of indication of voltage if you dont have a volt meter
