Just bought a 125/88 for parts.Owner said it hardly turns over and won't start.
I replaced the starter with a back-up.
I noticed the flywheel had a wobble(not supposed to).I removed it and saw the keyway was sheared.
Cleaned up the keyway and used a good flywheel. The other 's magnet was destroyed.
It turned over GREAT!!
Guess what???? It actually runs!!!
Now to the starter.
It was the original.NEVER cleaned never re-built NOTHING!!!
I pulled it apart.Saw the brushes were wore down and stuck.Springs were compressed a stuck.4Springs next to the right size2 after they were overheated
There was an obvious overheat situation as everything was cooked and carboned.
The armature where the brushes hit 2 of the windings were shorted out and destroyed the armature.
There was about a teaspoon of carbon/dirt in the bottom.See the pics.So clean or rebuild your starter at least every2 years.More if you use it a lot.J

No.
I actually had it sold and decided to check a bit further.
I removed the head and found some minor scoring in one of the cylinders.
It still had 145# of comp on all cylinders.Ran great!!!
I decided I didn't want to sell a motor with ANY possible problems.
I'm gonna get it bored and install a new piston. Then try to sell.
