I'm repacking the shafts this spring. Apparently the former owner used a drip-less packing (with good success as I've observed). All suggestions are welcome. I've located an excellant tutorial on repacking shafts and will provide the link when the family tech wizzard gets home.

"Neat link.

I'd make sure to inspect the hose and clamps holding the box to the log. They have a finite life and nothing like being on the hard to fix that issue.

Also, make sure the shaft is reasonably centered in the log; if it isn't repacking won't fix any recurring leaks or can make them worse. Finally, make sure the shaft is in good shaft where the packing rides. A rough surface there will eat new flax in a short time.

I'd use teflon or the GFO (gortex product) flax material. I had good luck with somme dripless preassembled inserts but they aren't available anymore."
