Rochester 454 Quadrajet Rebuild

another option if you're so inclined is buy the full rebuild kits from him including the throttle plates bushings. Rebuild them and send them in for bench testing. He has an engine in his shop. On mine, he made a couple of adjustments but no hard parts. The biggest mistake I made was not getting the throttle plates to seat correctly.

I was so glad I did it because it made it pretty much plug and play. I think you have to know your own ability though, he probably doesn't want to get half botched rebuilds that he has to tear down all the time.

Either way, he is the best and I wouldn't send them anywhere else. For you guys on the fence and already out for the winter, do something now! He gets pretty booked up so you're probably not going to get a quick turn around in the spring when you need it most.

Rebuilt the carb for me and it is on its way back. Looking forward to getting it installed and see how it runs.
He found quite a few issues with carb. Here is his response to my inquiry regarding the condition of the carb.
"Ned, a few minor issues. No gasket between the carb and plastic spacer.
Power piston arms were bent, which would throw the calibration off considerably, one engine back richer or leaner than the other. Wrong fuel filter, too restrictive. Bottom plugs leaking fuel directly into the engine all the time. Wrong needle/seat assembly, from a cheap kit, WAY too small for a big block Marine application. The pump didn't have the latest design
seal on it for ethanol. Warped slightly across the front, so I machined
the airhorn flat for a better seal at the gasket.
They discontinued the heated choke coils about a year ago, and we currently do not have a supplier for them. There are still some available from what I've seen. Might have to check around a bit to find one......thanks....Cliff"

Thanks for posting the results, now I know I am going to send him my q jets. If my hunch is correct, I will see a return on gas savings. At $5+ a gallon, this should not take too long...

Sounds like somebody butchered the poor carbs before you obtained them.....that situation is tough to deal with.

Glad Cliff came thru for you - and glad he's still providing his services.
