every time i put my 40hp evinrude in reverse it blows a fuse... its a late 60 early 70s not sure of model number.. someone looked at it and said there was water in the electric **** housing or something???????? im new to boats dont know much so any help will work

Sounds like the wire for the electric shift is bare / pinched / touching ground somewhere.--------------Water in the lower unit is likely not the cause.--------If you have water in the lower unit it must be taken apart for inspection and new oil seals.

ok thanks what about when its in foward at full throttle it dont have its power like it should... boat hardly goes

Well you have to do the basics.------------That motor can run on one cylinder since it has a duel ignition system.----------Trouble shooting 101 is to check spark to see if it will indeed jump a 1/4" gap on both cylinders with a snap you can hear.------------Compression test required to see what condition the pistons and rings are in.----Fairly common to have broken rings in the 40 HP models.

Disconnect the wires going to the lower unit ( on the motor ) and use your ohmeter to check.-------------Compare resistance of green to ground and blue to ground. Post your results.
