Rectifier wires 1995 Johnson

I have ordered a new rectifier/regulator for my 1995 Johnson 150 2s. I replaced the stater, motor now starts and runs fine. Have not run it on the water yet while waiting on rectifier due to fire risk. I saw somewhere that the purple wire (drainage wire?) is no longer used on the updated OEM models. I would like verification on this before I take everything apart and spare off the purple wire.

I thought purple was for the VRO.
