I am trying to find pros and cons for freshwater closed cooling systems on Mercruiser Sterndrives kept in saltwater? I appreciate any help that you may give to help me decide whether I should purchase an engine with a closed cooloing system.

a engine with closed cooling system is the only way to go for frash water or salt water.

I dont see any cons with a closed system. The extra maintenance required is very little compared to the benefits. Aldo

" Sony, Marv and Aldo. My Mercruiser dealer stated that closed cooling systems for V6 and V8 motors require a seperate through-hull raw water pickup (and pump?) to work properly. The 4 cylinder motors may use the stock outdrive water pump. With the closed cooling system, the risers still use raw water for cooling. "
