Proper Fuel Pump Pressure

I have 1984 454 CID Cruisaders with Rochester QuadraJets.

My fuel pump is rated for 5 to 9 psi. I have not measured the pressure at the carb yet. Is 9 too much?

9 psi is a bit high, 4-6 psi will keep the needle, seat, and float happy. If you still prefer those lower rpm operations, 4 psi will be more than adequate.

If you need to dial it down, a pressure regulator should be much cheaper than another pump.

9 psi will be more that the float will handle, even if you change the inlet to, say, a 0.110 size.

HI Chuck; are you having a too rich condition at low speed?
I've thought about fitting in a 0 to 15psi fluid filled guage between the carb and pump, but haven't done that yet. You might consider that temporarily.

Chuck:

Holley sells a really nice regulator that is adjustable. About 30 bucks. Here's what it looks like.

Yes, the Holley parts have been around for years. Very reliable as long as the fuel flowing into them stays clean.

Sourcing? - fastest would probably be Jegs or Summit. sure a www search would provide a few more options.

I'd look for a marine rated part.
