i have a 1966 inboard 327 wit

i have a 1966 inboard 327 with a mercruiser outdrive. my guess is the outdrive has never been removed. does anyone know of a easy way to break the outdrive free so it can be removed. i can't get anything to budge and i don't want to break anything....it has a gear that is attached to the colar on the inside...does anyone know what way it turns to release the colar...any help would be appreciated..thanks....

" Once in awhile, when a stern

" Once in awhile, when a sterndrive hasn't been removed for some time, I've found the grease on either side of the gimble bearing has hardened.
On a TRS drive once, I was able to cut the u-joint bellows, inserted a wedge between the u-joints and the transom used a hammer to smack the wedge. All of this while the drive was perloaded, chain hoist between a tree and the drive, just enough pressure to start to move the boat off the trailer. If I had to do it again, I'd remove the engine. Then you'll have room to work on the drive. "
