power trim/tilt

I have a 9.9 mercury 4st with an after market power tilt and trim. Am having trouble with the lift part. Will godown but not up. Checked the power on each wire one blue one green both had power when I used the switch both up and down. So was sure it ws the motor. ordered a new motor put it on and am stll having the same problem.
would like to know what switches the polarity when the button is pushed. the motor has only two wires. Tried switching he wires around and then it goes up and not down. Any ideas out there sure could use any help. Thanks
 
Swapping the wires around should give you up and down as you reverse the polarity. Those two wires are normally fed from a relay that is responsible for selecting the correct polarity for the button pressed. Does the motor spin both ways when not connected to the hydraulics?
